Summer Recreation Programs
City of Belen
Registration for the city of Belen’s summer recreation program has begun and closes on Friday, June 6.
Sign up at the Belen Recreation Center, 305 Eagle Lane. The center is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays; and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.
The program is offering sports, arts and crafts, games, field trips and more to children in the first through eighth grades.
The first session is Monday, June 9, through Friday, June 27. The second session is Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 25.
Each session is $150 with $50 off if you register for both sessions. Extended hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. are available for an additional $25 per session. No refunds will be given once the sessions begin.
A pair of meetings will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 22, and Thursday, May 28. Center staff will give details on summer programs, distribute the field trip calendar for the summer and take questions at these meetings. Village of Los Lunas
The village of Los Lunas 2025 summer recreation program for children ages 5-12 runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, June 9, through Thursday, June 26, and Monday, July 7, through Thursday, July 24, excluding Fridays, with lunch provided.
Registration by cash and check only can be done at the Daniel Fernandez Recreation Center, 1103 N.M. 314, Los Lunas.
Sessions for the entire summer for ages 5-6 and 11-12 are closed. Spots are still open for ages 7-9 and 9-10 as of May 15.
Cost is $20 per week or $140 for the entire program. Field trips are $20 per week, per child. The field trip schedule is TBA.

The village’s Open Spaces Outdoor Adventures program, which runs Monday-Friday, July 14-18, for ages 8-12 opens on Monday, June 2.
The cost is $45 per camper for the camp, which meets at River Park in Los Lunas. Register in person at the Daniel Fernandez Recreation Center. For more information, including programming and cost, call 505-352-7761.
Rio Communities
The Rio Communities Optimist Club is hosting two Robotics Camps this summer.
The STEM Robotics Camp — Mindstorm EV3 for grades 6-8 will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 17, at Rio Communities City Hall, 360 Rio Communities Blvd., Rio Communities.
Participants will build robots and learn robotics programming. Robotics is a fun way to learn about the use of science, engineering and mathematics.
The LEGO Robotics Camp is for grades 2-5. Camp for second- and third-graders runs Monday-Thursday, July 7-10.
The camp for fourth and fifth-graders is from Monday-Thursday, July 22-24. Both camps run from 9 a.m. to noon.
Campers will learn robotics using Legos, a fun way to learn about and gain understanding of science, technology and engineering.

Valencia County
The Valencia County Parks Summer Recreation Program will be offering summer recreation activities Tuesdays through Fridays in June and July, with some exceptions, at the Meadow Lake and El Cerro Recreation Centers beginning Wednesday, June 4, in El Cerro, and Thursday, June 5, in Meadow Lake.
Activities include Textile Day and Movie Night with VCAN, slime making, ice cream making and diamond art, bouncy ball making and more.
Field trips include pool day, roller mania and a trip to the Explora Science Center, Botanical Gardens and the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque.
Tuesdays art activities are open to ages 12 and under. Field trips are open to children between 5-12 years old. Registration is required for field trips. Registration for field trips is available to register on Valencia County Parks and Rec Facebook page.
All activities and field trips are free to the children; if souvenirs and other snacks are wanted to be purchased then parents are responsible to provide that funding.
