The City of Belen is willing to lease a portion of its limited quantity of unused pre-1907 water rights to individuals who do not currently have water rights associated with their property and wish to irrigate their land for up to 10 years. The City will charge a $3500 processing fee to prepare and file a lease and temporary transfer application with the State Engineer Office. The price for the water will be $95/AF ($285/AF for the standard 3 acre feet per year). Use of drip or other water saving methods could reduce the amount calculated. Certain restrictions based on the number of applications received may apply, and any lease agreed to may be voided in the event the City requires the use of those rights.
