Belen police, staff honored at Policeman’s Ball on Saturday
BELEN — For the first time since 1996, the men and women of the Belen Police Department gathered to celebrate and honor members who went above and beyond this year in a Policeman’s Ball last Saturday evening.
While the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls for service in the Hub City, five BPD officers and one civilian staff member were honored at the event.
Two officers — Officer Andre C de Baca and Sgt. Sarah Martinez — were recognized for five years of service with the department and Sgt. Jerome Cordova celebrated 10 years.
Stella Rangel, the department’s records supervisor, was presented with an appreciation award as a member of BPD’s civilian staff by BPD Chief Jose Natividad.
The chief said Rangel is a source of outstanding, continuous excellence in the department, saying she goes above and beyond.
“She has the ability to always be professional and is a role model for excellence,” Natividad said.
Officer Anthony Jaramillo received the Community Policing Award and the DWI Award for the year.
Natividad said Jaramillo has an “unwavering focus on positive interaction between law enforcement,” taking the initiative to start a traffic unit within the department.
“He has made a lasting impact on the department and the community,” the chief said.
In the last year, Jaramillo has apprehended 47 impaired drivers, demonstrating his “deep rooted passion to make the streets safe for everyone,” the chief said.

“He inspires those around him, takes time to guide younger officers and passes down knowledge which will create a lasting legacy in the department,” Natividad said. “He embraces the opportunity to learn and grow and has a relentless pursuit of excellence.”
BPD’s Top Cop has demonstrated courage and an unwavering commitment to justice, as well as shown resilience in the face of adversity, the chief said.
“(Keller has) made a significant contribution to the community through numerous outreach programs. They are a source of inspiration and embody the spirit of service,” Natividad said. “Let us be inspired by Officer Elisabeth Keller.”
