Los Lunas Fire Department providing water for residents affected by water disruption

LOS LUNAS — The Los Lunas Fire Department will be providing bottled water and access to fill water jugs beginning today, Oct. 23 at 4:30 p.m. due to an unexpected water emergency this morning on the west end of Los Lunas.

“If your house has been impacted by the water break and you do not have access to water, you can visit Fire Station 2, located at 465 Sand Sage Rd. NW,” a press release from the village states. “To fill a water jug, proceed to the water spigot, located on the south entrance marked with cones and signage. Bottled water will also be handed out at the spigot station.”

Residents are limited to two bottles per member of your household, while supplies last.

“A contractor was performing exploratory work in Los Lunas this morning for an upcoming village project, near the area of Sun Ranch Village Road and Main Street,” the press release reads. “Unfortunately, they hit a main water distribution line in the process, which supplies water to about half of the customers west of I-25.”

“In order to attempt to isolate the area of the break, the village has had to shut off certain water distribution valves, resulting in either disrupted water service or low water pressure for the areas of Huning Ranch Subdivision, Desert Sky Subdivision, Fiesta Subdivision and from the area of Los Cerritos Rd to Sundance Rd.”

As of 4 p.m., the village’s contractor and village staff have drained and isolated the location of the break and estimate water service will be restored around 5:30 p.m.

Students at Los Lunas High School were dismissed early at 11:45 a.m. today as a result of the water main break. The press release notes that village staff will continue to keep Los Lunas Schools updated on the situation so that LLS staff can determine whether to reopen the high school tomorrow.
