On Jan. 6, New Mexico State Police Crime Suppression Bureau agents gained intelligence that a wanted fugitive, Perry Halls, 55, was at 3 Daniel Court, in Belen.

Agents obtained a search warrant, which was then executed to apprehend Halls. While agents were on the property, they observed a partially dismantled vehicle that was determined to be stolen. A second search warrant was obtained, and agents located two more stolen vehicles, along with a stolen transmission and stolen engine.

A Claymore mine was discovered on the property, and the NMSP Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team was called to the scene and determined the device was inactive. A Claymore mine is a directional anti-personnel mine developed for the armed forces.

Halls was arrested and transported to the Valencia County Detention Center for incarceration. He was booked into the detention center on three warrants for trespassing and larceny, along with three new charges of receiving or transferring stolen vehicles, and one count of operating a chop shop.
