New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women to host Women’s Health Summit

ISLETA PUEBLO—The New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women will host its second annual conference, the Women’s Health Summit, on Nov. 8-9, at Isleta Resort & Casino.

The summit will address critical health care issues affecting women in New Mexico with a series of panels and informative speakers, as well as the opportunity for collaboration and networking with medical experts in all areas of women’s health.

The Women’s Health Summit will start at 1p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, and will include keynote speakers Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández.

University of New Mexico Bureau of Business and Economic Research will provide statistics on a variety of women’s issues followed by panels that include health care practitioners and experts, advocates, and informed representatives from local organizations. Friday’s panel topics are the maternal health crisis, navigating healthcare for women’s longevity, and increasing access points to quality healthcare.

The panel sessions will be followed by networking and an awards dinner honoring locals who are champions of women’s health in New Mexico. The honorees include, former representative Deborah Armstrong, Gallup Community Health and The Reproductive Health Success Project.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, a panel about the Reproductive Health Success Project will begin the day followed by panel discussions on the social determinants of health, expanding the provider pipeline and effective treatments for substance abuse. A luncheon and NMCSW Executive Director Jenifer Raphael Getz will close the summit.

The public is invited to register for this educational, empowering event at nmcsw.org, the website for the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women. Registration is $20 and includes access to all Women’s Health Summit panels, speakers, meals, award ceremony and networking opportunities. There are also a limited number of tables available for local organizations that want to share information with the public pertinent to New Mexico women. Registration is required for attendance and spots are limited.
