Belen Mayor Ronnie Torres and his wife Barbara were honored Tuesday night for the restoration work they did on their Victorian home on Dalies Avenue in Belen.

The Torres couple received the 2002 Preservation Award from the Valencia County Historical Society during a meeting of the Valencia County Commission in the Los Lunas council chambers.

“Ronnie and Barbara are my neighbors,” said Al Padilla, the county chairman. “They turned it into a beautiful showplace.”

On Sunday, June 9, there will be an open house tour of the Torres’ home as part of the Summer Home Tea, a fund-raiser for the Valencia Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence. Tickets for the event may be purchased at Hair Innovations, the Torreses’ business on South Main in Belen.

The commemorative plaque reads: “Valencia County Historical Society, Heritage Preservation Award 2002, Barbara and Ronnie Torres, Family Home on Dalies Ave., Belen, New Mexico.”
