Alice M. Gandara-Diaz, age 66, a resident of Belen, formerly of Santa Clara, passed away on May 29, 2024. After a long battle with cancer, she passed peacefully at home with family.
Services will take place on Thursday, June 6, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a visitation at 8:30 a.m., a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., with a memorial service to be celebrated at 10 a.m. A second service will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Santa Clara Catholic Church in Silver City, N.M., beginning with a Rosary at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Interment will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, June 10, at Santa Clara Cemetery.
Alice is survived by brother, Frank Johnson; three sons, Manuel “Manny” G. Torres (Aimee), Narciso “Cecil” G. Torres (Lila) and Jesse G. Diaz (Isela); and seven grandchildren and great-children.
Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Hector L. Diaz; and parents, Narciso P. and Alice Nevarez Gandara.
She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Alice was always willing and eager to help anyone in need.
She loved the outdoors and enjoyed time with her family. Alice was very passionate about her job. She was an HR director, E.E.O.C director and affirmative actions director for the majority of her career, which spanned more than 45 years. Alice was always fair and never took sides; she was strict with a loving hand and heart.
She always made time for her family to go on adventures. Alice was very religious and had great morals. Alice will be dearly missed.
Pallbearers will be Narciso Torres Jr., Jesse Diaz Jr., Charles and John Johnson, Justin Diaz, Luis Apodaca, Anthony Maez and Fidel Mirabal.
