Carmelita “Carmen” Ann Marquez, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, was called home on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, after fighting a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Carmen was a 1964 graduate of Belen High School. Following graduation, she moved to Santa Monica, Calif., where she worked her way up from a telephone operator to engineer in telecommunications with AT&T. One of her proudest moments during her career was engineering the telecommunications for the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, Calif.
Carmen was an avid LA Dodger’s fan, who enjoyed spending time with her family and touring the United States each year with her parents. In 2004, she retired and returned to New Mexico.
Carmen always thought of others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She is already deeply missed.
Carmen is preceded in death by her father, Juan C. Marquez Sr.; mother, Louisa G. Marquez; brother, Rudy Marquez Sr.; sisters, Florinda Cordova, Eva Jean Ruof, Geneva Brady and Mary Marquez; nephews, Joshua Trujeque, Mateo Marquez, Zachary Zambrano and Jonathon Trujeque, who was also her godson.
She is survived by her brother, Juan (Chris) Marquez (Judy); sisters, Corine Trujeque (Paul), Esther Trujillo (Dennis Sr.), Lori Kurtz (James) and Gloria Montano (Max); sister-in-law, Lena Marquez (Rudy Sr.); brothers-in-law, Michael Brady (Geneva) and James Ruof (Eva Jean); and many loving nephews and nieces; and friend, Sylvia Ortiz.
Carmen’s services will take place on Monday, Feb. 27, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m. A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., with the Mass to follow at 10 a.m. Carmen will then be laid to rest following the Mass at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
