Dorothy Marta

1928-2024

Dorothy Marta was called to her eternal home on July 30, 2024.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1928, in Wagon Mound, N.M., to Amador and Lilia Montoya. The family moved to San Diego, Calif., in January of 1942, where she graduated from Kearny High School in 1945. The family then moved to Los Angeles, where she married and raised her sons, Otto and Jerry, in Buena Park, Calif.

Dorothy was employed by Northrop Aircraft for more than 25 years. In 1972, she married Arthur Marta, and they both retired in 1977. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States until Arthur passed away in 1998.

Their home base had been in Los Lunas, and Dorothy returned to make Los Lunas her permanent home. She was a member of Peralta Methodist Church and a member of The Luni Pepper Red Hat group.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Marta; her son, C. Otto Walls; her stepdaughter, Linda Boyer; and her stepson, Mike Marta.

She is survived by her son, Gerald “Jerry” Walls, of Riverside, Calif.; her daughter-in-law, LuRuth Walls, of Lovelock, Nev.; her granddaughter, Sara Walls, of Elko, Nev.; and her daughter-in-law, Shirley Marta, of Hemet, Calif.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to David McCoy and Lisa Lugo, beloved neighbors for more than 35 years, who offered their time, love and companionship throughout the years. She considered them family. We are also grateful to Alicia Gonzales, her caregiver in her final years, who cared for her with compassion.

Dorothy also leaves behind numerous cousins, neighbors and close friends — each a blessing that only God could provide.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy wished for donations to be made in her honor to the Peralta Methodist Church Crafty Ladies or Food Pantry.

A memorial service will be held at Peralta Methodist Church.
