Flora “Lipa” Romero-Hernandez, age 100, a resident of Hutto, Texas, formerly of Los Lentes, left for her heavenly home on July 8, 2024. She passed away in Hutto, Texas, where she resided with her youngest son and daughter-in-law.
Services took place on Monday, July 15, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley in Belen. Interment took place on the same day at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Lipa, as she was affectionately known to her friends and family, is survived by her sons, George (Christine), Michael (Lucille) and Eddie Hernandez (Cora); her grandchildren, Kenneth (Victoria), Ronald (Pam), Dwayne (Judy), Edward Jr. (Jannette), Ryan (Jenny), Kristina, Tracy, Erica (Marcos), Heather (Fouad), Francine (Chris), Nicole, Karrie (Mathew), Elizabeth (Bruce) and Michelle (Steven); and many great- and great-great grandchildren; her very close niece, Karen Shae Martinez; and her great-nieces, Prezli and Marie.
She is preceded in death by her, husband Paul; daughter, Carlita Pena; in-laws, Pablo and Manuela Hernandez; 16 siblings and several sisters- and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; son-in-law, Jose Pena; and sister, Helen Martinez.
Lipa was born in Ortiz, Colo., to the late Felipe and Sofia Duran Romero. She was one of 17 children.In 1945, while working in Ogden, Utah, at the U.S. Air Force base, she met Pablo Hernandez Jr. at the Ogden City Park while he was recovering from his war wounds at the Brigham City Army Hospital near Ogden. After a short romance, Paul and Lipa married and eventually relocated to Los Lentes in 1948.
Lipa worked and retired from the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School, where she was a nurse’s aide. Paul and Lipa were married for 71 years and most recently, Lipa celebrated her 100th birthday with more than 200 guests at the Isleta Casino and Resort.
