Florinda “Florie” N. Chavez, age 82, a resident of Belen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque with the love of her family.

She was born in 1941 (Pearl Harbor) to Ramon and Josefita Chavez, of Belen. Florie was married to David Chavez for 61 years, and they had five children. She was a dedicated housewife and mother.

After raising her family, she went to work for the Belen Consolidated Schools. She furthered her education while working at Belen Schools, getting a degree in education at UNM, where she retired after 25 years there.

Florie kept everyone on her toes with her wit and sarcasm. She loved to go out to eat, crafting, reading, puzzles and spending time with family and friends. Florie got to travel to Europe, Spain, Japan and also many states in the U.S. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and her Bible reflected that.

Florie is survived by her sons, Chris and Carl Chavez; daughters, Cathy Hisam(David) and LoriAnn Garcia (Michael); nine grandchildren, Erica McCartney (Brian), Dominic Chavez (Janelle), Tyler (Kayla) Scartaccini, Aric Chavez (Abby), Amanda Anderson (Tommy), Neal Simmons (Ashlyn), Aaron Simmons (Morgan), Acelyn and Braeson Hisam; 10 great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Uryah, Kaleb, Aria, Gabriel, David, Wyatt, AveryMae, Cash Ava and Gemma.

She is preceded in death by parents, Jose Ramon and Josefita Chavez; husband, David Chavez; son, “her baby boy” Eric John Chavez; six siblings, Silver, Ben, Bennie, Rudy, Mary and Susie; and her great-grandson, Elijah.
