1952-2024

Frederick John Garcia, age 72, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Aug. 19, 2024.

Fred was born in Alamogordo, N.M., Feb. 13, 1952, to Angelita Garcia and Sisto Garcia. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1975-1987, and afterward, worked in civil service for Social Security for 18 years.

He will always be remembered as a gentle, kind and loving man. He enjoyed listening to country music, dancing, playing bingo, camping and watching his favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys.

He was preceded in death by parents, Sisto and Angelita Garcia of El Paso, Texas.

Fred is survived by his wife, best friend, and soul mate of 31 years, Susan Garcia, of Los Lunas; two brothers-in-law, Tom Jones, of Los Lunas, and Michael Jones and his wife, Phyllis Jones, of Albuquerque; mother-in-law, Betty Jones, of Los Lunas; daughter, Rachel Covarrubia and husband, Paul Covarrubia, of Los Lunas; son, Jonathan Spagnola of Colorado; sons, Bryan Spagnola, of Los Lunas, Manuel Garcia and wife, Sandra Garcia of El Paso, Texas, Michael Garcia, of Chaparral, N.M., and Juan Garcia and wife, Celina Garcia, of Los Lunas; grandchildren, Erik Spagnola, Sarah Mendoza, Mia Mendoza, Sylas Covarrubia, Keanu Covarrubia, Meghan Garcia, Rebekah Garcia, Ailee Garcia, Andrew Garcia, Christopher Garcia, Julian Rodriguez, Zarahi Rodriguez and Micah Garcia; sister, Teresita Newman, of El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no services, but a private family remembrance and celebration of life will take place at a later date to be determined.
