Jay Ray Smith Jr. passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Los Lunas. He was 93.
He was born in Kenton, Ohio, and was a 1954 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. On June 4, 1954, Jay married Marilyn Ruth Hatchett of Kenton, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an instructor at New Mexico Military Institute, and then traveled for many years.
In 2014, they built a home in Bosque Farms, next door to their son, where they were fortunate to be close to family and enjoy visits from far and near. There they joined the Peralta Methodist Church and enjoyed activities with the Bosque Farms Community Center.
Jay is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Jacqueline (Lawrence Mecklenborg), Jennifer (Jon Holzapfel), Tina, and Jay (Janice Meek), 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Following cremation, there will be a family and close friends memorial. Interment will take place in Grove Cemetery, Kenton, Ohio, at a future date.
