1947-2023

John Benton Nunn Jr., age 76, a resident of Rio Communities, passed away on Dec. 20, 2023. Cremation has taken place.

Interment will take place at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.

He is survived by his brothers, Mark and Craig Nunn; cousin, Michael Sackett; and many friends from the Vietnam war, who knew him as “Doc.”

John is preceded in death by his parents, John Benton Nunn Sr. and Margery Jean Sackett.

He was a member of the Order of DeMolay, VFW Post 856, Austin, Texas. John followed the path of Tibetan Buddhism.

He was a Navy medic attached to the USMC Thundering Third Unit at Cam Lo, where he treated many wounded Marines. John lived a colorful life and was a friend to many.
