Jonean Lynette Roberts
Jonean Lynette Roberts
1970-2024
In the early morning hours of July 23, 2024, Jonean Lynette Roberts peacefully passed away in her sleep.
Joni bravely fought her battle with cancer and did everything she could to live her life to the fullest. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law and beloved friend, who will be deeply missed.
Joni is survived by her mother, Twylla Roberts; sisters, Arminda, and Kristiana and wife, Arika; and brother, John “Bebo” and wife, Jennifer. Along with her siblings, she leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, all of whom she deeply loved.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Roberts; brother, Damon Armstrong; and niece Evelynn. She has numerous aunts and uncles, as well as many cousins within her family, who will greatly miss her.
Joni worked at UNM for more than 30 years and spent over 20 of those years as the residency program coordinator in the orthopedic department.
Joni left her mark; she will be remembered for her laughter, her genuine love and care for all who she worked with, and for the small bowl of candy she kept stocked in the corner of her desk.
She was an enthusiastic and dedicated ARCOS board member. She served as president-elect, treasurer, a member on the virtual events committee, website committee and anywhere else there was a need on the board. They will remember Joni as a truly caring human being who had such a good heart.
Among the time she devoted to her job and family, she made time to share her love and skills with the church which she attended, Community of Christ Church. She always searched for ways to share her gifts, sometimes working behind the scenes. When she saw a need she was quick to respond. She helped by working with the youth programs both at the local congregation as well as in the Mission Center.
You could find Joni planning and being the cook for meals on the yearly ski trip for the youth and young adults, or at work weekends down at the campgrounds. She provided help at the youth and family camps.
Joni was very creative and a great problem solver. Using those talents, she would bring her expertise to women’s retreat and help monitor a night program at the local congregation called Parent’s Night Out.
Joni was blessed with a zest for life. She had many interests — card making, crafts of all kinds and she loved concerts, State Fair rodeos, camping at the fiesta park during balloon season, as well the Denver Broncos.
Her favorite color was purple and she couldn’t get enough of “Toy Story.”
She loved helping others celebrate successes as well as send expressions of encouragement during a hard time. She loved a good joke, and her smile warmed one’s heart, as well as that little ornery twinkle in her eye. Most of all Joni loved her family deeply. All who knew her will truly miss her.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Community of Christ Church, 4701 Juan Tabo Blvd., NE, Albuquerque. If you are able to attend her celebration of life, the family would encourage you to wear bright colors, purple especially, anything Broncos or something from “Toy Story” (Woody was her favorite).
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the youth program of the Community of Christ Church. You may send your donations to: Community of Christ, 4701 Juan Tabo, Albuquerque, NM, 87111. For checks: Memo: Memory of Joni Roberts
