She grew up in Belen, but after high school she started her family and relocated to Los Angeles, Calif., where she found the love of her life, Michael, while working at the Los Angeles Forum.

They were married in 1964 and lived in Inglewood, Calif. They later relocated to Rio Communities in 1978 where they could be closer to family. They continued to live in New Mexico until Michael’s passing in 2007.

Aside from her life with her husband and family, Lucy had two clothing stores and retired from the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School, where she worked both in dietary and care.

Lucy enjoyed going on trips to Arizona to see her children and grandchildren, as well as visiting with her children, who lived near as well. She gave her time to anyone she could, and always showed her kindness when she met people.

After the passing of her husband, Lucy was looked after and taken care of by her son, Joseph, and remained widowed until her death.

Lucy is preceded in death by her late husband, Michael; parents Ismael and Jenny Saavedra; daughter, Linda Bloom; and sister, Angie Cano.

Lucy leaves behind three children, Kathleen Chapman, Victoria Molinar and Joseph Ataganian. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; her brother, Manuel and his wife, Paula, and the Zozoya family. She also leaves behind the Barela and Cano families, who are very close and important to her.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a Rosary at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., with a reception to follow.

A special thanks to those handling the arrangements and those who offered their support.
