Madeline Crockett

Madeline V. Crockett passed away at her home on Sept. 15, 2024. She was 102 years old.

Madeline was born on June 4, 1922, in Okemah, Okla. As a child, she moved frequently. Madeline and her family settled in the Arrey, N.M., area.

Madeline thought of herself as a lifelong seamstress, but she was also many other things. Madeline was a waitress, ironed clothes for a dollar a basket, owned and operated a beauty shop in Magdalena, assisted in fence building, bred and raced horses and was a life-long member of the I Am Activity.

Madeline is preceded in death by her father, James Clark Newport; mother, Mary Elizabeth Hill; brothers, Garret Newport and Donald Hill; husbands, JoBuck Holden, Tony Nuanes and Charles Crockett; son, Jerral Holden and his wife, Nina Holden; daughter, Kathleen Hills and her husband, Earl Hills.

Madeline is survived by her daughter, Betty Nuanes; granddaughter, Breanna Jaramillo; her husband, Eric Jaramillo and Jolene Baughman; grandsons, Michael White, Weston Dalton and Justin Tharp; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Madeline’s life will be held from 12-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Fred Luna Multigenerational Center, 315 Don Pasqual, Los Lunas.
