Maria Mercedes Benavidez, age 74, of Casa Colorada, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Los Lunas surrounded by her loved ones.
Mercedes was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and worked at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School until it closed. She then retired from Adelante. She was a foster grandparent at Gil Sanchez Elementary.
She loved everyone like if they were her own. She never missed a sporting event or school function that her grandchildren were involved in.
Mercedes is preceded in death by her parents, Benito amd Pricilla; brother, Dennis; and son, Gerald Flores.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Ricardo) Varela; grandkids, Anessa, Armando, Arturo, Alfredo and Anthony Flores; great-granddaughter, Anaya Flores; siblings, Rudy and Lorraine, Boleslo, Joanne and Ted Benavidez, Adela Luna and Rosemary Chavez; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Funeral services have already taken place, and she was interred at the Casa Colorada Cemetery.
