1938-2024

Norbert C. Sanchez, age 86, a resident of Belen, passed away on Aug. 1, 2024, at the New Mexico Veterans Home in T or C, N.M., after a long battle with Parkinson’s.

Services will take placeon Friday, Aug. 30, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Sanchez,Jason Sanchez, Kevin Sanchez, Joseph Sanchez, Nicholas Becker, Matthew Becker, Caleb Baca, Caden Baca,Justin Wooten, Breanna Sharon and Danica Sanchez.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda Sanchez; children, Robert (Camillia), Michael, LeeAnne Becker (Ralph), Christine Hernandez (Nick), Catherine Baca (Cliff) and David; grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, Kevin, Joseph, Nicholas, Matthew, Caleb, Caden, Justin, Breanna and Danica; siblings, Alex (Millie), Sophie Baldonado, Dolores Garcia and Lillian Ortega.

Norbert is preceded in death by hisparents, Rafael C. Sanchez and Maria Concepcion Chavez Sanchez; siblings, Ida Rios, Jack Lawrence Sanchez and Mary Sanchez; andgrandchildren, Sabastian Walter Sanchez, Kierstin Marie Sanchez and Claire Felicitas Baca.

He was a remarkable man who touched many lives. Many will remember Norbert’s warm smile and caring nature, and will recall his 26 years of dedicated service as a deacon at Our Lady of Belen Parish, fully retiring from the deaconate after 43 years of service.

His professional life included 27 years at the New Mexico Highway Department and he served in the U.S. Army. He had a love for gardening and enjoyed spending time with his family.
