Diana Brown
1969-2025
Diana Brown, a fierce warrior for Christ, devoted patriot and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love and unwavering faith.
Diana was a woman of conviction, never afraid to stand up for what was right. Her love for God and country was evident in everything she did, and she made a lasting impact on all who knew her. She was a force to be reckoned with — bold, passionate and full of life.
Diana’s fire, her love and her fearless spirit will never be forgotten. She lived with purpose and left a mark on this world that time will not erase. Though we grieve her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord she served so faithfully.
Diana was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Debra Watt; her mother, Vickie Fletcher; her grandparents, Howard and Rita Jones; and her aunt, uncle, and cousin Rick, Vicki and Joshua Jones.
Diana is survived by her loving children, her sons, Gavin Laughlin and Geoffery Decker, and her daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Richard Griego. She is also survived by her father, Larry Fletcher; and her cherished grandchildren, Brody Brown, Keira Vaughn, Richard and Khaleesi Griego; and her great-granddaughter, Melody Miksell. Additionally, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews, including Larry Sutherland and family, Tyler Fletcher and family, and Diana Jesser, as well as many other family members and dear friends, who loved her deeply.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 4, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley in Belen.
In honor of Diana’s legacy, may we continue to stand firm in faith, love fiercely, and never waver in the pursuit of truth.
Gilbert Chavez
1934-2025
Gilbert Chavez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and proud U.S. Air Force retiree, passed away peacefully Feb. 22, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old.
Services took place on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Los Chavez, and at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, on Friday, Feb. 28. Interment followed at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Born to Jesus and Albina Chavez on July 25, 1934, Gilbert lived a life of dedication, love and service.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Albina; mother- and father-in-law, Donato and Ferminia Lovato; brother Raymond; sister, Eva; brothers-in-law, Robert Lopez, Eloy Peralta and Leo Lovato; sister-in-law, Alice Chavez; and son-in-law, Gary Holland.
Gilbert was married to love of his life, Rosie, for 64 years. Their deep bond and love for each other were the foundation of a strong family, which Gilbert cherished.
He was a devoted father to six children, Kathy, Kristine and husband, Mike, Kim and husband, Wayne, Karla, Gilbert Jr. and Daniel; and a proud grandfather to his grandchildren, Zac and partner, Yvette, Margaux, Aaron, Beau and wife, Julie, Luke and wife, Jenny, Niko, Alec, Raquel, Shonlee, Richie, Mariah, Hailey, Braylon and Winter, Andrea; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Reya, Alex and Alexa.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joy and he took immense pride in watching them grow and thrive. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty and faith that will forever be cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many loving nephews and nieces, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
A retired Air Force veteran, Gilbert served his country with honor, distinction and pride. Gilbert was a highly decorated and successful member of the Air Force, earning the rank of master sergeant. His military career allowed him to travel across the globe and shaped his character, instilling in him the values of discipline, hard work and commitment — qualities he passed down to his family.
He also proudly earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Albuquerque. Gilbert, aka “Machete,” was a great provider for his family, always putting their needs first and ensuring they had what they needed to succeed.
Outside of his role as a loving father and husband, Gilbert was a passionate supporter of his grandchildren, and his greatest joy in life was watching them compete in sports. His presence at every game was a testament to his deep love and pride for his family.
He was also a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Dallas Cowboys. Watching games with family and friends brought him great happiness.
In addition to his family and sports interests, Gilbert was a proud and active member of his community. Gilbert was a man of strong Catholic faith and along with his wife, was awarded the St Francis Assisi award. He was a devoted member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and served selflessly as a member of the Spanish choir for more than 50 years, a lector, a sacrastan and as a member homebound ministry.
He played San Miguel for El Gran Pastorela, as well as other roles in the play. He was also an actor in the Death of the Messiah play.
Gilbert was also a proud longtime member the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Knights of Columbus. His faith and commitment to service were cornerstones of his life.
Gilbert also had a deep affinity for his dog, Kodak, who brought him companionship over the years.
His kindness, loyalty and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gilbert’s legacy will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and many friends. He was a man of integrity, strength, and love, and he leaves behind a lasting impact on everyone whose life he touched.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Alec Chavez, his grandson who helped care for him, as well as Braylon Chavez who helped tata the past couple of years, and Amanda, with Simplicity, the wonderful staff at the VA Hospital, Roadrunner Hospice and our wonderful neighbor, Rosie Torrez, for all the compassionate care during this time.
Services will be announced to honor Gilbert’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Our Lady of Belen Cemetery Indigent Fund.

JoAnn Chavez
1955-2025
JoAnn M. Chavez, 69, passed away March 25, 2025, at her home in Peralta.
JoAnn was born on April 8, 1955, to Santiago and Mary Torres, of Peralta. JoAnn met Reuben Chavez and, a few days later, were married. They shared 51 years together. They had three children.
JoAnn had several jobs throughout the years, including in-home childcare and working at a daycare. She worked at the Los Lunas Hospital and Training School for several years. Her last occupation was working at the Isleta Casino, where she acquired several friends. She spoke of her friend, Hermilla, often.
JoAnn loved spending time with her sisters, Lupe and Mary Louise, whom the three were often called “the golden girls.” Her partner in crime was Mary Louise, whom JoAnn would often go to the casino with. They had a lot of fun trying to be on their best behavior!
JoAnn also spent a lot of time with her granddaughter, Marie, and great-granddaughter, Mia, also known as “the Mias.” JoAnn loved when her grandchildren went to visit.
She loved her dog, Mordi, whom helped her immensely when her husband passed. JoAnn was a very giving person, always thinking of others first. She made cheesecake often, gifting it to others. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. We will all miss her dearly.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, Santiago and Mary Torres; husband, Reuben Chavez; brother, Benny Torres; sisters, Josephine Vallejos, Theresa Bauler and Guadalupe Romero; and great-grandson, Levi Nathanial Brandt.
JoAnn is survived by her brothers, Clovis Torres and Andy Torres; sisters, Mary Louise Chavez and Frances Vigil; children, Max (Joanna) Chavez, Rebecca (Luis) Brandt and Santiago Chavez; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her beloved dog, Mordi.

Virginia Perea Chavez
1942-2025
Virginia Perea Chavez, born in Valencia, went to be with our Lord on March 10, 2025.
Virginia was the daughter of the late Herman and Florencia Perea.
She was the loving mother of Carol Sanchez, of Los Chavez, the late Reuben Sanchez Jr., of Los Chavez, and Ruby Sanchez Workman, of Albuquerque; her granddaughter, Raquel Osborne Hernandez, of Albuquerque; great-grandson, Desi Garcia; great-granddaughter, Azyln Garcia; and grandson, Bentley Workman.
She was also survived by her siblings, who she loved dearly, Robert Perea, of Albuquerque, Gene Perea, of Los Lunas, Betty Castillo, of Los Chavez, and Tody Perea, of Rio Communities, and the late Richard Perea, of Los Lunas; and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia was known for her outgoing and warm personality. She started a local business along with her late husband, Reuben Sanchez, which was the very first video rental store in Valencia County in 1985, later expanding to several businesses in Valencia County and Albuquerque.
She was also known by her family and friends for being a gifted sewer and seamstress. Virginia loved being surrounded by friends and family and most of all she loved making people laugh.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 4, at the Riverside Funeral Home in Los Lunas.
Theresa Alice Chavira
1959-2025
Theresa Alice Chavira, age 65, of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025. She was born on Nov. 24, 1959, in Belen to Cito and Jenny Chavira.
Theresa was a devoted mother, daughter, nana, sister, aunt and friend, known for her kind heart, warm spirit and unwavering support for those she loved. She dedicated her life to her grandkids and family, touching the lives of many with her generosity and compassion.
Theresa retired from Sandia National Laboratories after 35 years of dedicated service. In addition to her career, she was an active member of Calvary Chapel New Harvest. She was deeply committed to her faith.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Romero Jr.; grandson, Isaiah; granddaughter, Analiyah; sister, Geraldine (Chavira) Marquardt; and brother, Henry (Mary) Chavira. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Henry Chavira Jr., Celina (Juan) Garcia, Jamie-Rae Marquardt, Jennie (Brandon) Kanning, Jared Marquardt, Lorena (Tristin) Baca and Loretta Chavira; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jenny Chavira.
Theresa will be deeply missed, but her love, kindness and beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Gilbert “Gil” Flores
1965-2025
Gilbert “Gil” Flores passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He was a devoted husband of 43 years, loving father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle and cherished friend.
Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 8, beginning with a visitation at 9:30 a.m., a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
Gilbert’s warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him. Gilbert had a loving heart and a laugh that will never be forgotten. He found joy in hunting, fishing and creating lasting memories with his sons, Patrick and David. His love for his daughter, Roxanne, was evident in the flowers he sent her every Valentine’s Day.
He adored his grandchildren, who always brightened his day. He never missed a chance to joke and share laughs with his kids and grandkids.
Gilbert also made it a priority to call his mother daily; ensuring she was always up to date with the latest “news.”
Above all, he deeply loved his wife, Eileen, of 43 years (his high school sweetheart). He loved teasing her with affection and remaining devoted to her until the very end. His presence will forever be missed.
After 25 years of dedicated service, Gilbert retired from the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility as a sergeant. That is where he developed many lasting friendships that he truly cherished.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his father, Jose Albino Flores; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Eileen Archibeque Flores; children, Patrick (Suzie), David (Davrie) and Roxanne (Ruben); his mother, Sylvia Flores; brother, Michael Flores (Cyndi); grandchildren, Dominique (Bryson), Grace (Justin), Rylee, Ryan, Dylann, Luciano, Nehemiah, and Velaina; a great grandbaby due in October; in-laws, Richard and Augustina Archibeque; brother-in-law, Steve Archibeque (Carol); sister-in-law, Denise Hidalgo (Jerald); and one cousin he loved dearly, Denise Carrillo. He was a beloved godfather to Andrea, Andrew, Armando and Luciano. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Victoria “Tori” Garcia
Died 2025
With heavy hearts, the family of Victoria “Tori” Garcia, age 39, of Belen, announce that she has passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 29, 2025.
She was a beloved daughter, sister, auntie and friend to many. Tori was known for her kindness, cheerfulness and unwavering spirit.
Tori is preceded in passing by her grandparents, Jose and Mela Garcia, and Dan and Tina Garcia.
She is survived by her parents, Marvin Garcia and Loretta Garcia; brother, Mark (Judy) Garcia; nephews, Elijah, and Jorden; and niece, Summer.
May Tori rest in eternal peace and may her family and friends find comfort in the many cherished memories that she leaves behind.
Services for Tori will take place on Thursday, April 3, at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel. A visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m., followed by a prayer service at 12 p.m.

Deana Ruth (Horne) Kachelmyer
1938-2025
Deana Ruth (Horne) Kachelmyer was born on Jan. 21, 1938, and peacefully transitioned to eternal life in heaven on March 17, 2025, after a life well-lived.
Deana left an indelible mark on countless lives during her 87 years. She was no superwoman, and yet one faithful step at a time, she did a world of good and radiated life-changing love in the many places she lived.
Upon her marriage to John Kachelmyer in 1965, she moved to Japan, where they cared for orphaned teen boys. Among the significant places she lived, in 1970, they moved to Belen, and established Christian Mission to Youth, Inc. as an umbrella for their ministry.
John and Deana relocated to Honduras in 1976 and started an orphanage. In 1993, they were called to Romania, where they opened a home for boys and also a ministry to poor Roma villages. They retired to Belen in 2010, while the ministry in Romania and Honduras continued with their guidance.
Deana was predeceased by her husband, John; and her sister, Norma Horne Lewis.
She is survived by her sisters, Carla Price, of Lone Oak, Texas, and Marinell (Mike) Turnage of Dallas, Texas; her devoted friend, Nancee Matthews, of Bosque Farms; her children, Genevieve, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ruth Ellen (Paul) of Gaithersburg, MD, Daniel (Laura), of Jefferson City, Tenn.; Roger (Angie) of Duluth, Minn., Lionel of Dallas, Texas, and Michael (Gemini) of Mesa, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews, and many others who experienced her motherly love.

Though Deana and John are now with Jesus, the ministry of Christian Mission to Youth continues as faithfully as ever through those they mentored to take their place.

Yolanda Ymelda Lopez-Minner
1955-2025
Yolanda Ymelda Lopez-Minner, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025.
She was born in 1955 in Belen to her loving parents, Filimon and Emma Lopez. Yolanda had five siblings and shared a special bond with her sisters, Elsie (Don), Dolores (Larry), Patricia (Philip) and Juanita (Allen); as well as their late brother, Uriol. Over the years, Yolanda and her four sisters were often affectionately referred to as the “Lopez Lovelies.”
She also adored and remained very close with her very large extended family that included many aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Yolanda was a devoted wife to Jim Minner, and the treasured matriarch of the Minner family. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her son, Jimmy and his wife, Alanna, along with their daughters, Aubrianna and Alayah; her son, Will and his wife, Jenna, along with their children, Brayden and Briella; and her stepson, Steven and his wife, Teddie.
Yolanda’s unwavering love and guidance will forever be remembered by her family. A woman of incredible strength and resilience, Yolanda was a proud cancer survivor, who actively participated in numerous cancer walks, inspiring many with her courage and generosity. She also donated significantly to cancer research, a cause close to her heart. In addition, she was deeply committed to Alcoholics Anonymous, where she formed many of her closest friendships.
She remained sober for more than 33 years, providing support and guidance to countless individuals on their own paths to recovery.
Yolanda will always be remembered for her determination, her boundless willingness to help anyone in need, and, above all, her deep and unconditional love for her family. She touched the lives of many with her generosity and selfless spirit.
Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in remembering a truly remarkable woman. Services will take place at Romero Funeral Home in Belen at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 10. A reception will follow at the Sheriff’s Posse Hall in Belen from 12-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in memory of Yolanda Lopez-Minner, a cause that she was deeply passionate about, as cancer has affected many members of her family. Steven Eugene Willis
1951-2025
Steven Willis, 74, passed away on Friday, March 21, at his home in Los Lunas.
Steven always had a very special connection with music. He had a great memory and never forgot a name or face. He was a big part of NM Special Orchestra and the Aktion Club. He worked at MyBank for many years and retired in January 2020.
Steven always knew the next holiday on the calendar, and especially loved St. Patrick’s Day. Steven enjoyed talking and video chatting with his sister, Dovie, on a weekly basis.
He blessed many people with his presence and will be missed deeply.
Steven’s celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 10, at Adelante’s Administrative office, 414 E. Reinken Ave., Belen.
