Reuben J. Chavez, 73, passed away July 2, 2023, at his home in Peralta.

Reuben was born on Oct. 27, 1949, to Jose and Susie Chavez. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp., and later married Jo-Ann Torres. They had three children.

Reuben volunteered at the Los Lunas Fire Department for 17 years along with Lito Chavez and Walter Baca, whom were all good friends and whom he spoke of often.

Reuben worked at the Los Lunas Youth Center for several years, where Frank Gurule and Jackie Aragon were mentors and good friends to him. He retired from the University of New Mexico Hospital after 20 years.

Reuben was a giving person, who would help others with anything they needed at anytime. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Reuben is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Susie Chavez; brothers, Tranquilino and Felipe; sisters, Melicia and Socorro; and great-grandson, Levi Nathaniel Brandt.

Reuben is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jo-Ann Chavez; sisters, Estefanita and Alicia; children, Max (Joanna), Rebecca Brandt (Luis) and Santiago; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
