Roy Harper, age 60, of Los Lunas, passed away unexpectedly on July 22, 2024.

Roy is preceded in passing by his biological father, Roy Harper; grandparents, Virginia and Darl Warrick and Lucille and Felton Harper; and brother, Joseph Clay Gleason.

He is survived by his only child, daughter, Virginia Lee Harper; grandsons, Hayden Anthony Pastorek and Mason Alan Keen; parents, Darla and Earl Gleason; brothers, Mike Gleason and family, Tim Gleason and family, Gary Harper, and Kenneth Harper and family; nephews, Jeff Harper and family, and Benjamin Harper and family. He also leaves behind many other family members, friends and coworkers.

Roy was a hard worker, and a dedicated father and grandfather. At the time of his passing, he worked for Blackrock Construction. The construction industry is where he built his career and excelled at his talents as a heavy equipment operator and blade man.

Most recently, he worked on the maintenance of the roads to the mines, keeping them accessible for the big trucks and traffic that traveled those roads. Over the years, he had his hand in the building of places such as the Beach Waterpark, the amphitheater, Amazon warehouse and Facebook.

He enjoyed hunting with his brother, Ken, as well as his nephews, Jeff and Ben. Five years ago, after moving back from Texas, he purchased his home in Los Lunas and recently, re-explored his love of the outdoors and farming roots by joining his family and offering his help with the farm chores. He’d cut and bale the hay, feed the animals and collect the eggs.

His family and friends meant the most to him, though. He was the one they could always count on and he’d never stop short of his best to help anyone in need.

Services for Roy will take place on Friday, Aug. 9, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley. A visitation will take place at 9:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10 a.m.
