Sofie Martinez, age 93, a resident of Belen, passed away on Jan. 24, 2024.

She was a member of VFW and Coalition for Prisoners’ Rights. Sofie had a kind heart, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. She retired from APS after many years of service.

Sofie loved to play bingo, travel, listen to country music and spend time with her family, of which there were five generations of loved ones surrounding her. She had so much love and compassion for those around her, and always made an effort to help the sick and elderly when she could.

She is preceded in death by her son, Phillip Cordova.

Sofie is survived by her sons, Donnie Tafoya (Viola) and Martin Cordova (Sheetal); and daughters, Diane Lopez (Jose), Elaine Gurule (Bobby) and Maxine Vallejos (Michael).

Services for Sofie will take place at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 9, at Calvary Chapel Rio Grande Valley.
