Plan will not help Hyde Lane residents
Editor:
I want to call special attention to where Hyde Lane currently intersects with N.M. 47.
According to the (Los Lunas Boulevard Corridor) project’s design plans, Hyde Lane is to be converted into a four-lane highway, which will intersect with N.M. 47. However, current designs will not enable residents living on either side of the highway to turn directly onto their streets or even to make U-turns at the intersection stop light due to raised divider curbs which will be constructed.
This will force dozens of local families to make random and dangerous U-turns, thereby undercutting the project’s intent of improved traffic flows and safety. The incorporation of signaled U-turns will improve traffic flow, safety and preserve the quality of life of residents.
Another modest suggestion is to incorporate dark skies method lighting and mixed evergreen natural sound barriers. Both have proved effective in reducing light and noise pollution, are minimal in expense and will help preserve our beautiful starry nights and quiet rural atmosphere.
I understand the benefit of economic development and the need to improve traffic flow. We can achieve all of the above by the incorporation of the above suggestions.
The residents of the village of Los Lunas and Valencia County all stand to benefit.
