Take the challenge, become a highpointer

Published Modified

Interested in becoming a highpointer?

The quest can be to reach each state’s high points, as Fred Pomeroy is doing, or the goal can be to go to the high point in each county in a given state.

There are websites to help you find the information you need in order to locate the high points:

  • www.highpointers.org gives you the vital information about reaching the state high points, along with information about people who have gone before you.
  • www.cohp.org is the website for the county high points. A national map allows you to select your state, then there is information about each county, along with a list of people who have reported reaching these high points.

Andy Martin has been to every highpoint in New Mexico. You can reach Martin through a web link to ask questions about the counties he has visited in various states.

There are also books available to give you the latest information and advice.

Highpointer.org also has a store where patches and T-shirts may be obtained.

There is also an annual convention for high-point enthusiasts. This year it will be at Black Mesa, Okla., on Sept. 18-22.
