Daniel Corrales, surrounded by his coaches and family, signs his national letter of intent to play basketball at New Mexico Highlands

BELEN— On May 16, Belen senior basketball star Daniel Corrales signed his national letter of intent to play at New Mexico Highlands University, as his coaches Donald Marquez, Daniel Chavez and Omar Rojo, along with his parents looked on.

“I’ve lived in Belen for two years,” Corrales said. “I love it here, but I’m looking forward to going to Highlands and experiencing college.”

“I’m really proud of him,” head coach Donald Marquez said. “He was really coachable, and listened to what the coaches had to tell him. Really thankful for his time here.”

“The coaches were great,” Corrales said. “It is because of them that I am where I am today.”

Corrales averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds during his lone season for the Eagles, leading them to a 4A semifinal appearance at The Pit this past season.

Corrales was also named to the Red-Green All-Star Game at the end of the season, which features New Mexico’s top prep seniors from every class in the state.
