Eagles land four on All-State baseball team
Christian Wilson led an impressive contingent of Belen Eagles on the 4A All-State baseball team, while Los Lunas and Valencia also had baseball honor squad representation.
In softball, Shyla Rocha and Honey Mirabal, who just completed their ninth-grade seasons at BHS, grabbed spots on the 4A All-State team. LLHS had one honoree in 5A.
The selections were made by the New Mexico High School Baseball Coaches Association.
4A Baseball
Wilson, who will play at Antelope Valley College in California next season, was one of five pitchers on the first team after leading the Eagles to a 20-9 record and a spot in the state quarterfinals.
BHS first baseman Angel Garcia was chosen for the second team. Garcia will continue his baseball career in the fall at New Mexico Highlands University.
Honorable mention choices include recent Belen graduate Brysen Soiles at catcher, and third-basemen Isaiah Vargas, junior.
Valencia outfielder Eliseo Rameriz, who batted 640 and led the Jaguars in most offensive categories, is on the 4A second team. Rameriz signed a national letter of intent with Lamar Community College in Colorado.
5A Baseball
Recent Los Lunas graduate Fabian Trujillo, who had an impressive 31 steals, is on the second team as an outfielder.
JJ Utash averaged almost 1.5 strikeouts per inning and was a honorable mention pitcher as a ninth grader.
4A Softball
The future looks bright for Belen with Rocha and Mirabal earning all-state honors.
Rocha, who played first base, was named to the first team. Coach Oscar Medrano calls Rocha a good contact hitter with good defensive skills.
Mirabal gets the nod as second-team infielder after batting an impressive .634 with seven home runs for the Eagles.
5A Softball
Los Lunas secured a spot on the All-State second team with Natalie Madrid, who excelled at first base for the Tigers. Madrid, a sophomore, led LLHS with a .573 batting average and 45 runs batted in.
