TOMÉ — Back on track.

For the first time since the running surface at Valencia High School was refurbished almost two years ago, a track and field meet was held at the facility.

Saturday at the District 5-4A meet, Belen captured the girls title, while the Eagles were runner-up in the boys’ competition.

Los Lunas had a good showing Saturday at the District 5-5A Championship at Santa Fe Capital. The Tiger girls took home the title, while the LLHS boys finished second.

Among the top performers for Valencia was Nizhoni Apodaca, who took first place in shot put while setting a school record.

District meets were the last chance for individuals to qualify for the state championships Friday and Saturday at the University of New Mexico.
