Murzyn wins WGA President’s Cup
RIO COMMUNITIES — The Women’s Golf Association began the month of June with its scramble on June 5.
Winning the scramble was the team of Kathryn Bayless, Fran Griffeth, and Marilyn Winters.
The highlight for the month was the President’s Cup competition played on June 12. Crowned as winner was Berta Murzyn in the Ladies 18 category, with no players competing in the Ladies 9 category.
In other Wednesday play days, Bayless and Murzyn won First Gross honors for the Ladies 18, with Griffeth and Anna Martinez each winning once in the Ladies 9 category. Murzyn won First Gross in the Ladies 18 category on three Saturday play days.
Chip-in Birdies don’t happen that often, but several were made during June.
Marilyn Jaramillo and Sandy Watts each scored one, and Murzyn scored two. Chip-ins were made by Watts, Murzyn, and two by Winters. Birdies were scored by Edie R. Moore and Paula Valdez, and two by Murzyn.
In the Wednesday Ace Day competitions, Bayless won the Ladies 18 category. There were no winners for the Ladies 9. Winner of the Saturday Ace Day was Watts for the Ladies 18, with no winner for the Ladies 9.
Special congratulations go to Jaramillo who won Overall First Net at the NMSWGA Tournament held at the Santa Ana Golf Course on June 10.
In July, regular play days on Wednesdays and Saturdays will be played, and on July 24 WGA members will assist with the TDS Junior Golf Day competitions.
