Salome signs with Aggies
PUEBLO OF ISLATA — High school golf doesn’t get much attention during the fall, but the season has been special for Rylee Salome, three-time state champion for Belen High School.
November ended with Salome following through on her verbal commitment by signing a national letter of intent with New Mexico State University.
“It means everything,” Salome said shortly before inking the paperwork during a gathering at Isleta Golf Course. “This is the day I’ve been looking for since I was 4 years old when I first came out here,” to Isleta to hit golf balls.
November began for Salome in Louisiana, where she finished third in the Notah Begay III Girls National Championship.
“It was a really competitive field, so it was a pretty good finish,” she said.
Salome played in the Ping Invitational in California and concluded the fall high school season with the Eagles. Salome, who lives in Tomé and studies through the Liberty University Online Academy, will be going for a record-tying fourth state championship in the spring.
