Swim coaches pleased with progress

Albuquerque

A total of 27 schools, including Belen, Los Lunas and Valencia, participated Saturday in the Albuquerque Academy Invitational swim meet.

The BHS boys finished 10th overall, with Diego Vigil fourth in the 200 individual medley with a state qualifying time of 2.13:28.

Coach Liz Jones was also pleased with the boys’ freestyle and medley relay teams, which finished in the Top 10.

Marissa Candelaria, coach of both LLHS and VHS, also saw positive results.

“Nearly every athlete swam personal bests,” Candelaria said. “We were able to incorporate several new athletes into our relays.”

All three schools will be in their home pool Feb. 1 for the Belen Invitational.
