Tiger baseball team to face Alamo in important district DH Friday

Published Modified

The Los Lunas High School baseball team will play an important District 3-5A doubleheader on Friday against Alamogordo. The first game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

The Tigers entered the week on top of the district standings with a 5-1 record, one-half game ahead of Las Cruces Mayfield. Alamogordo, the defending district champions, began the week tied for third place with Anthony Gadsden at 2-4.

Los Lunas played at Las Cruces High on Tuesday (no score was available at News-Bulletin press time).

Friday’s doubleheader is important because, if the Tigers sweep, they will be on the threshold of their first district title in decades. If there’s a split, or if Los Lunas should lose both games, the Tigers will have to battle for not only the district title, but a state playoff berth.

Los Lunas is on a roll. The

Tigers entered Tuesday’s game having won eight of their last nine games to improve to 11-5 overall.
