Vivian Invite: Eagles bring hardware home from Socorro event

Belen’s Adrian Lovato, in maroon, helped the Eagles to a third-place finish at the Sammy Vivian Invitational. The BHS girls were fourth.

The Belen boys finished third and the girls fourth Saturday at the Sammy Vivian Invitational wrestling tournament in Socorro.

Aztec was the team champion, followed by Las Cruces.

The Eagles had eight placers in the boys event, with Ryder Williamson champion at 285 pounds. Other top finishers include Manny Valdez (132), Stephan Ulibarri (157), Michael Shiplet (165) and Adrian Lovato (215) in third place. In fourth were Mason Carillo (106), Larry Duran (120) and Alberto Jaquez (144).

Individually for the BHS girls, Linsey Sanchez (120), Olivia Ortiz (140) and Emma Perez (235) were each runners-up. At 130 pounds, Azana Williams took third.
