WGA ends regular season; member donation
RIO COMMUNITIES — The Women’s Golf Association ended its regular playing season in November with limited playdays due to weather issues.
The last official gathering for 2024 was the Christmas luncheon at Tierra del Sol Golf Club on Dec. 14.
The featured playday in November was the Turkey Shoot on Nov. 20. The First Gross winner was Berta Murzyn, followed by Kathryn Bayless. First Net for the day went to Tammie Fuller, and Anna Martinez was Second Net.
The Saturday Turkey Shoot winner was Murzyn, followed by Jennifer Montano, and the First Net winner was Sandy Watts.
One chip-in was made during the month by Edie Redfearn-Moore, and Murzyn notched a birdie. A coveted Eagle was made by Watts.
During the Christmas luncheon, a $1,500 check was donated to Casa Esperanza, Inc. and given to its executive director Crisanne Gray. Casa Esperanza is an organization that represents Home Away from Home, providing safe and supportive housing for families needing help while traveling for medical care.
New officers for the 2025 season were inducted at the luncheon. Jeannie Burleson will serve as president, with Tammie Fuller filling as vice-presidential. Sandy Watts will be secretary, and Marilyn Jaramillo will be treasurer.
Special awards for the 2024 season were also presented. Murzyn won the Most Improved category, the most birdies scored; and, not surprisingly was named the Grand Slam champ for winning the most major championships.
The Most Chip-in category was won by Redfearn-Moore. In Ringer Board competition, Ladies 18, the 15-25 handicap division was won by Murzyn; the 26-33 division was won by Jaramillo. Paula Valdez won the 34-43 division. Fran Griffeth won the Ladies 9 division.
A special award was given to Bernadette Jaramillo for all her hard work throughout the season, especially in organizing the Fall Frolics Tournament and the Christmas luncheon, as well as the Arts and Crafts Fair at TDS.
The regular 2025 season will begin in March. Ladies interested in joining WGA should call Edie Redfearn-Moore at 505-859-2304.
