RIO COMMUNITIES — The Women’s Golf Association began its August schedule of playdays on Aug. 6 with the regular scramble/meeting day.

Winners of the scramble were Berta Murzyn, Dorothy Lindberg and Joanne Romero. Coming in second was the team of Tammie Fuller, Fran Griffeth and Beverly Turley.

The highlight of the month was on Aug. 13 when the Grandma’s Tournament was played. The First Gross winner was Murzyn, with Kathryn Bayless coming in second. First Net winner for the day was Anna Martinez, followed by Jennifer Montano.

A makeup day for the Ladies 18 Ace Day was played on Aug. 2, with Sandy Watts taking Ladies 18 honors. There were no Ladies 9 players.

The September Ladies 18 Ace winner was Edie Redfearn-Moore, and the Ladies 9 winner was Lindberg. A Saturday Ace Day competition will be played in September due to lack of Saturday players for most of the month.

Low Gross winners throughout the month were Griffeth with two in the Ladies 9 division and in the Ladies 18 division, Montano had one, while Murzyn chalked up four.

One chip-in was scored by Murzyn, Redfearn-Moore, and Lindberg, and Jeannie Burleson had 2. Murzyn birdied twice, and Montano had one.

A fun day on Aug. 27 required the ladies to choose only three clubs to use for the entire round. The Ladies 9 winner was Griffeth, and Murzyn was the Ladies 18 winner.

Coming up in September is the Club Championship Tournament, which will be played on Sept. 10 and 17. On Sept. 24, an 18-hole Pro Am scramble will be played.
