Women’s Golf Association chip-ins par for the course

RIO COMMUNITIES — The Women’s Golf Association began a busy month of July with its scramble/meeting day on July 3. Winning the scramble was the team of Berta Murzyn, Tammie Fuller, Marilyn Winters, and Dorothy Lindberg.

As is often the case, Murzyn had a productive month of top scores, including five Ladies 18 First Gross scores; two Ladies 18 First Net Scores; four birdies; and one chip-in birdie. In the Ladies 9 division, Fran Griffeth had two First Gross wins and made 3 chip-ins.

Lindberg had two Ladies 9 First Net wins. Kathryn Bayless had a birdie and a Ladies 18 First Net win, with Edie Redfearn-Moore scoring a chip-in and two Ladies 18 First Net wins.

Marilyn Jaramillo scored a chip-in birdie and had both a Ladies 18 First Gross score and a Ladies 18 First Net score. Sandy Watts had a chip-in birdie and a Ladies 18 First net win, and Fuller had a Ladies 18 First Net win.

In Ace Day competition, newcomer Jennifer Montano won the Saturday Ladies 18 division, and the Wednesday Ace Days were won by Lindberg for the Ladies 9 division and Redfearn-Moore for the Ladies 18 division.

Members of the WGA took the day off from regular play on July 24 to assist with the Golf Camp competitions that ended the month-long golf camp that was run for young players. There was competition for Long Drive, Putting, and Chipping.

In August, there will be regular play days, highlighted by the Grandma’s Tournament on Aug. 14.
