Valencia Campus budget up 1.17 percent for ’03

The University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus Advisory Board unanimously voted to adopt next year’s budget, in spite of the fact that the state’s budget was vetoed.

Because the campus’s state appropriation is based on a funding formula, the campus knows with some certainty what its budget will eventually be, officials said.

According to figures produced by Associate Director of Business Operations Andrew Sanchez, next year’s budget will show a 1.17 percent increase compared to the year before.

The campus expects $8,400,414 in expenditures including $2,525,065 for instruction, $1,069,520 for institutional support, $21,200 for student and social (student government) and $673,346 for auxiliaries, which includes the bookstore and cafeteria.

Students at UNM-VC will not experience a tuition increase this year. Last year, the UNM Board of Regents raised tuition by 5.6 percent.

Because a final budget hasn’t been signed, faculty and staff at the local campus and across the state will not get their annual salary increase, although health insurance coverage is expected to rise this next year, said Dr. Alice Letteney, executive director.
