Whorton named board president

Bob Whorton was chosen the new president of the Los Lunas Board of Education on Tuesday evening.

Pam Thomas is the new vice president, while Art Castillo is secretary and John Kern is chairman of the finance committee.

Nancy Seemann is the fifth board member and will be an alternate to the finance committee.

She is president-elect of the New Mexico School Board Association, so she declined a nomination to serve as secretary.

Whorton thanked Kern for the “wonderful job” he did as president of the board for two years.

“Four years ago, he convinced me to run for the school board. I didn’t know what to expect. I’ve been real pleased the board is focused on kids,” Whorton said. “I hope I can live up to your expectations.
