Saturation patrols

In conjunction with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and Safer New Mexico Now, the Los Lunas Police Department will conduct saturation patrols, enforcement checkpoints, and seatbelt enforcement operations during February, March and April. These activities intend to increase public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, detect and investigate DWI offenses, increase seatbelt use, and reduce motor vehicle crashes. The Los Lunas Police Department encourages drivers to buckle up and not to drive impaired.

New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols; and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during February.

Canned food drive

The Belen Fire Department and Belen Area Food Pantry are holding a canned food drive through Saturday, Feb. 28. Bring canned food from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day, to the Belen Fire Department, 121 S. Fifth St., Belen.

Open mic night

An Open Mic Night, sponsored by PopUpShow, will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, at the Belen Public Library, 333 Becker Ave., Belen.

Soup-R Bowl

Tomé Art Gallery is holding its annual Soup-R Bowl event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8, at the UNM-Valencia campus Student Community Center. Bowls will be on sale at the Tome’ Art Gallery, 2930 N.M. 47, and at the UNM-Valencia Bookstore. Bowls, including soup, bread and dessert, cost $20. For many years, with the help of volunteers and donations, this event has continued to support student scholarships for UNM-Valencia students. Networking luncheon

The Greater Valencia County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Valentine’s networking luncheon at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Fat Sat’s Bar and Grill, 51 I-25 Bypass, Belen. The cost is $20 per person for the lunch buffet. The keynote speaker is Theresa Saiz, CPA, who will be talking about tax changes. FFA Pie Auction

VBPaw fundraiser and dog adoption event will be held from 12-3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Belen Harvey House Museum, 104 N. First St., Belen.

Fiddlers and Musicians

Fiddlers and Musicians of New Mexico will perform Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. Music, dancing, snacks and fun! $3 at the door.

Movie matinee

A movie matinee of “Hidden Figures” will be shown at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Belen Public Library, 333 Becker Ave., Belen.

Daddy Daughter Valentine’s Dinner, and Dance in RC

The Rio Communities Optimist Club will hold its second annual Daddy Daughter Valentine’s Dinner and Dance from 5-9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at Tierra del Sol Golf Club, 1000 Golf Course Road, Rio Communities. The event, which is for girls in the third-eighth grades, will include music, dancing, dinner and fun. The cost is $40 per couple and $20 for each additional daughter. Battle of the Brains

Join the Gigantic Hounds of the Southwest (a Sherlock Holmes club) at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Belen Public Library, to test your powers of observation and deductive reasoning, and watch two episodes from the TV series, “Sherlock and Elementary.” There will be a short discussion at this free event.
