Shout out to the Belen Fire Department

How often do we complain about a service we receive?
How often do we say thank you for a service we receive?
My guess is that the prior outweighs the latter.
On Tuesday, March 10, our tethered trampoline in our backyard went airborne when a violent gust of wind raised it and dropped in on the front edge of our home. The trampoline was in such a position that another gust, even a small one, would take it one the sidewalk or the roadway partially injuring someone or causing a traffic accident.
I called the Belen Fire Department. They responded quickly and professionally. Realizing the potential hazard, they were able to safely lower it to our frontyard neutralizing the hazard.
Thank you to the following personnel for a job well done: Fire Chief Charles Cox, Deputy Chief Michael Wessels, Capt. F. Martinez, Lt. C. Martinez, engineer L. Belmudez, engineer B. Stubben, firefighter M. Bucio and cadet J. Shaw.
The city of Belen is indeed very fortunate to have a professional, well-trained and well-equipped fire department.

Why isn’t anyone helping?

I’m not sure where to begin because Valencia County is a total mess.
I’ve been here, in Valencia County, for most of my life. My parents grew up here, raised their family, worked here, farmed here, and died here.
They loved Valencia County. I love Valencia County. We have the best people here, the most friendly and the most lovable people.
Lately, everything seems to be in chaos, not only from the national level politics, but now on the local stage.
I am so disappointed in the people who we’ve elected here in Valencia County. Our county government has continued to make drastic mistakes that have cost taxpayers millions of dollars and countless hours of grief.
Little to no accountability has taken place from county officials. Questions aren’t being answered. It seems as though they just don’t care.
We have an inept county clerk who has fumbled at least two elections. He doesn’t know how to do his job and he got re-elected for some odd reason.
Then we have a county assessor who applied the wrong rate to our property taxes last year. How does this happen? How do these county leaders make us feel better about this mistake? They don’t.
Neither did our county treasurer when he sent out new but wrong property taxes. It wasn’t their fault. It was his fault of someone else, he said.
It’s always someone else’s fault, right?
Now, we have a deficit of $2.02 million dollars thanks to now former finance director who fell for a phishing scam. Really? How does this gel?
This incident happened in early January, from what the county manager said, and we only found out last week. How does this happen? Why are they keeping so many secrets.
Valencia County is not transparent. In fact, they are the opposite of that. They are not trustworthy. They are not helping Valencia County citizens.
Why should we vote for any of these people. Why aren’t the county commissioners stepping up and helping in any of these situation.
It just seems that they are sitting back, letting the chips fall where they may. Let me tell you this, these chips are much heavier and telling as anything I’ve ever witnessed.
This county is corrupt and someone needs to do something. Call in the feds! Or maybe not.
