Photo contest
The Rio Communities Optimist Club is sponsoring a photo contest for students from elementary through high school. Gift cards will be awarded to first, second and third-place winners in three grade groups, with a grand prize winner. Entries are due by Monday, April 13. Death of the Messiah Passion Play
The annual Passion Play, “Death of the Messiah,” is scheduled to be performed at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish hall in Peralta; and at 7 p.m., Friday, April 3, and at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at the Belen High School auditorium. Admission to the performances are free but donations are accepted.
Career Fair at Goodwill Industries in LL
Looking for your next opportunity? Join Goodwill Industries at their Community Career Fair, where more than 10 local employers will be hiring for positions in a variety of fields. Your new career may be waiting for you. The fair will be held from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at Goodwill Industries, 201 Desert Willow NE, Los Lunas.
Candidate forum
A candidate forum featuring Democrats and Republicans running in the Primary Election will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Belen Public Library, 333 Becker Ave., Belen. This event is free and open to the public. All Valencia County residents are welcome.

Plumb Adequate will perform from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. $5 donation.
Route 66 Centennial Speaker Series
David Montoya will present, “Land & Acequias along Los Ranchos’ Route 66,” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Fred Luna Multi-Generational Center, 197 Don Pasqual, Los Lunas.
Donatella Davanzo will present, “Route 66 Connected: A photo-ethnographic exploration of the contemporary Route 66 in New Mexico,” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Isleta Pueblo Cultural Center, 71 Tribal Road 40, Isleta.
Belen Cutoff presentation
Historian and author John Taylor will hold a presentation on the Belen Cutoff at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 31, at the Bosque Farms Community Center.
Easter Egg Hunts in Valencia County
• The Los Lunas Police Department and Albertsons Market is holding an Easter Egg Hunt for children 1-11 at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 28, at Heritage Park, 3447 Lambros Loop, Los Lunas. There will be egg prizes and family fun.
• The Hub City Egg Hunt will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at Eagle Park in Belen. The event is for toddlers through 12 years old. Along with the egg hunt, there will be prize baskets, sweets and fun.
• The Valencia County Parks and Recreation Department will hold its third annual Easter egg hunt for children 12 years old and younger at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, at Ann Parish Elementary, 112 Meadow Lake Road. Bring your own Easter baskets. there will be games, a rock wall, face painting and a food truck.
• The Los Lunas Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 2, at the Los Lunas Sports Complex, 1600 N.M. 314 SW. The event will be for children up to 12 years old. Thousands of colorful eggs to find, golden egg prizes, photos with the Easter Bunny and fun prizes.
• The Rio Communities Optimist Club, Moose Riders and La Merced Women of the Moose are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 11, at Tierra del Sol Golf Club, 1000 Golf Course Road, Rio Communities. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures. Bring your own Easter basket. Treats in every egg and special golden eggs.
Veterans Outreach
The Veterans Health Administration will hold a veterans outreach from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, at the Bosque Farms Community Center. Learn more about VA health care, veterans benefits and other VA resources.
Chamber networking luncheon
The Greater Valencia County Chamber of Commerce will hold a networking luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, at Pete’s Cafe in Belen. The cost is $23 per person, all inclusive. RSVP to rhona@valenciacountychamber.com by March 30 to reserve your spot.
Holy Week
The First Presbyterian Church-Belen, 85 Manzano Expressway, in Rio Communities, will celebrate Maundy Thursday, April 2, with a soup and bread supper with communion (everyone can partake) at 5:30 p.m., at 10 a.m., on Easter Sunday, April 5, a special Easter service with chimes, brass, children’s choir, adult chancel choir, a special message, followed by an Easter Egg hunt for the children. All are welcome.
Join First Baptist Belen as their choir presents the cantata, “More Than a Carpenter.” Hear the message of Easter in song at 10:30 a.m., Palm Sunday, March 29, First Baptist Church Belen, Fourth Street and Becker Avenue.
Good Friday pilgrimage to Tomé Hill
The annual Good Friday pilgrimage to Tomé Hill will be held Friday, April 3, at El Cerro de Tomé. The traditional walk begins at sunrise and continuous throughout the day to the three crosses placed on the sacred hill by the late Edwin Berry.
Free after-school tutoring at the Moose
The La Merced Moose Lodge is offering free after-school tutoring for students, K-12, from 3:30-5 p.m. on Fridays, at the lodge, 306 Rio Communities Blvd. Certified teachers will provide help in math, reading, science and social studies.
